‘We all have an internal pharmacy in our brain – and sometimes just need help accessing it.’ Heather Sarit, wellness writer, and health coach

Chronic pelvic pain is widespread but still not a topic we talk about, even amongst our closest girlfriends! Pain or distress in the pelvic region can manifest as bowel, bladder, sexual, and core stability symptoms. Millions of women are diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain each year, and since many women remain quiet about it, the number of women affected is likely much higher. This needs to change!

Every human has a pelvis. It provides us with functions of core stability, elimination, and pleasure. Its bowl shape contains our precious reproductive, digestive, bladder and intestine organs, vital for our well-being.

Chronic pelvic pain is pain or discomfort for more than 6 months. Diagnoses can include endometriosis, vulvodynia, interstitial cystitis, urinary urgency, incontinence, constipation, abdominal bloating, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), tailbone pain, and hip or lower back pain. Consult with your doctor for assessment, follow their medical treatment plan, and do the online mind/body program, PelvicSense, at the same time to enhance your healing.

Time to tackle taboos

Historically, women had to fight to be heard in a patriarchal system perpetuating the idea that women were ‘inferior’ and ‘hysterical.’ To this day, these ‘unsexy’ topics are treated as taboos. Women have been conditioned to talk about sex and bathroom habits in whispered tones. It makes sense that any discomfort in this area often leads to feelings of shame, which is why many women who suffer from pelvic pain suffer in silence.

It’s vitally important that we remove the stigma associated with pelvic pain, so women can feel comfortable speaking up to get early diagnosis and treatment. Please realize that pelvic pain or pelvic floor dysfunction is not anything to feel shameful or embarrassed about – and now, you can enhance pelvic healing in the comfort of your own home – alongside medical care.

‘Lowering the nervous system’s sensitivity helps the brain send more pain-inhibiting chemicals such as opioids and oxytocin – and reduces the fear of being touched or functioning normally.’ Evelyn Hecht, Founder, PelvicSense

Chronic pelvic pain negatively impacts other aspects of well-being – mental health, sexual health, sleep, social interactions, job performance, and elicits unpleasant emotions, such as frustration and embarrassment. The immense (and unjustified) pressure to live in secrecy with these unpleasant feelings creates stress, contributing to the sensation of pain.

25 Years Experience Behind PelvicSense

Based on science and my 25 years of treating women with pelvic issues, I designed PelvicSense, an online pelvic healing home program to reach more women. The program is founded on my successful patient treatments and research by neuroscientists, physiotherapists, naturopaths, psychologists, and nutritionists.

PelvicSense has a “biopsychosocial” healing approach – factoring in the biological, psychological, and social factors that can drive up or dial down our pain experience

BPS approach

The affordable mind/body program provides education about pelvic pain (which helps us understand it better), helps rewire, calms the nervous system (which is fundamental to changing our pain experience), and includes a variety of graded movement exercises clinically proven to reduce fear and improve function.

Follow the home program for 20 minutes, three days a week for three months, a short time to undo years, sometimes decades of pelvic pain.

What You’ll Do

  1. Learn: Education modules about pain neuroscience and the evidence behind all self-care techniques
  2. Rewire: Audio guides with music that calms the overly sensitive nervous system and lowers pelvic floor muscle tension
  3. Move: Gentle progressive exercises such as breathing, mindful pelvic, hip, lower back stretches, and core stabilization
  4. Strategies: To achieve optimum pelvic function – sitting without pain, decreased urgency/frequency, pain-free sex, reverse constipation, and abdominal bloating
  5. Receive support: From Evelyn Hecht PT for three months
  6. Access: To the private PelvicSense support group

PelvicSense will guide you to unlearn the unhelpful ‘fight or flight’ habits that may have become automatic. Decreasing unhelpful patterns also soothes your immune system so you can focus on your life, not your pain.

How PelvicSense Works

PelvicSense emphasizes the brain/nervous/immune systems and their relationship with the body. Throughout this program, your nervous system will get more safety messages, your brain will send more feel-good chemicals, and you’ll decrease fear of movement and regain flexibility, strength, and function with significantly lowered pelvic pain/distress symptoms.
