Interstitial Cystitis: Riding for a Cure
September 1, 2021 - September 30, 2021
My name is Jessica Atkins. I am 43 years old and I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) approximately 3 years ago. Prior to this, I lived with the condition for years. This is fairly common, as it is difficult to diagnose.
IC is a rare disease and symptoms can vary from moderate to severe, and include, but are not limited to the following: Chronic pelvic pain, urinary urgency/frequency as well as burning painful urination. Many who struggle are unable to work as a result of the debilitating chronic pain. Here in Canada, there were no support systems or research being done. However, Pelvic Health Support Canada is changing this! With September being IC awareness month, I have decided to help make a difference. I am committed to riding my bicycle 700 km within the month.
Please help me increase support, awareness and research for this worthy cause. We can’t get there without you!
Much thanks,
Jessica Atkins
